Seniors Shop For Free At New Goodr Grocery Store

By , On , In News

Every day, senior citizens across America are forced to make tough choices between paying bills, paying for medications, and paying for food. Thanks to a life-changing partnership between Goodr and the Lutheran Towers Retirement Community, over 300 Midtown Atlanta seniors will no longer have to make that difficult choice. On Wednesday, January 19, the Lutheran Towers Goodr Grocery Store opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours of the new store and some grocery shopping for several of the senior residents.

The new grocery store is available to all senior residents at Lutheran Towers. Residents can shop for groceries, personal hygiene products, cleaning products, and even pet food; and it’s all free. Located in the basement of Lutheran Towers, a low-income senior high rise living facility, the store is the brainchild of Goodr Founder and CEO, Jasmine Crowe, who has been feeding seniors through various initiatives since 2013. After witnessing first-hand the difficult, and often detrimental budgetary choices so many seniors are forced to make, Jasmine partnered with Lutheran Towers to replicate the impact of the first Goodr Grocery Store that opened last year in Fulton County’s Ronald E. McNair Middle School, in partnership with multi-platinum rapper Gunna.

Seniors have always had a special place in my heart. Opening this new Goodr Grocery Store with Lutheran Towers is a long-time dream come true.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opening the storage-room-turned-store, Jasmine was on hand to welcome residents, explain how everything works, and to get their feedback on the new store. Eager seniors were able to go home with fresh produce, bakery items, pantry staples, pet food and more, and browse the recipe station donated by DELL. There is even a small section carrying magazines and crossword puzzle books. The store will be restocked weekly, ensuring that perishable items are always fresh.

While Goodr’s latest free grocery store is only for residents of Lutheran Towers, the company’s goal is to open other stores as funds permit.
