For many, August signals the last days of summer. Temperatures begin to slowly cool, final summer vacations take place, and families prepare to send their children back to school. This year, however, those preparations are marked by challenges for some families. With pandemic benefits ending, like free school lunches, and the cost of goods rising, families are facing tighter budgets than in previous years. Students’ needs ahead of a new school year can add additional financial strain to already tight budgets.
This month, we have been working hard to offer relief to families that may need extra support before the new school year. We teamed up with a few long-term partners and friends on our Hunger Relief Solutions to bring Goodr snackpacks, school supplies, and more resources to those in need. Keep reading to learn more about the work we did with Lil Baby, Kandi Burruss’ Kandi Cares, and Quality Control Music to ease the burden on families and students ahead of the new school year.
Lil Baby’s Annual Back to School Fest
Ahead of the first week of school in Atlanta, multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning recording artist Lil Baby hosted his annual back-to-school festival at The Mall West End. To ensure 3,000 Atlanta students were ready for the new school year, he bought out Foot Locker and American Deli in the mall. Students received free clothes, meals, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, and more. After collecting their back-to-school supplies, students and their families enjoyed food trucks, carnival rides, and games.
Lil Baby invited the Goodr team to the festival. We brought out our after-school snack bar, a variation on our Student Snackpacks, with us. Stocked with everyone’s favorite snacks, we made sure the kids had all the best goodies to take home for after school or on weekends.
Kandi Cares Back to School Pop-Up
Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, TV personality, and entrepreneur, Kandi Burruss and her foundation, Kandi Cares, tapped our team once again to give back to Atlanta area families. With the support of Nouveaux and Garner Trial Attorneys, this partnership came in the form of a Back-to-School Giveaway. The giveaway provided 500 children with backpacks full of school supplies and Goodr Student Snackpacks, which give children easy to prepare snacks for after school and on weekends.
“With so much negativity in the world and the cost of living continuing to rise, we are delighted to spread some positivity and help the families within our community that desperately need it. This initiative will provide single-parent homes with the necessities for all of their back-to-school needs,” said Kandi Burruss, Founder of Kandi Cares.
Quality Control’s Back to School Old Navy Takeover
To kick off back to school season, we teamed up with our friends at Quality Control Music again to provide to some relief to metro Atlanta families in need. Quality Control Music chose to host its annual QC Back to School Bash in a big way. Together, we took over Old Navy in a local Atlanta shopping center. During the takeover, 500 kids received new backpacks, school supplies, $50 Old Navy gift cards, and much more! We were on-site with our after-school snack bar and Student Snackpacks so that the kids had their pick of snacks for after school and the weekends.
“God gives some of us blessings and it’s important to share that energy helping folks that are less fortunate,” Pierre “P” Thomas, Quality Control CEO said. “Giving back to our community is the least we can do.”
Thanks to a few of our amazing long-term partners we were able to do Goodr for thousands of students and their families ahead of the new school year.
